Description
In 1438 the Abbey of Melk bought this property, called Melker Hof, that today houses the Melker Stiftskeller. In 1629 the Benedictine monastery of Melk received the permission to not only sell the wines of their own vineyards but also food as well, this ancient document dates back to the reign of empress Maria-Theresia.  Today Melker Stiftskeller is a traditional Austrian restaurant offering local beverages, seasonal dishes and a roast of pork knuckle, the specialty of the house for almost 400 years now.
